Girls Rock Campaign Rebrand

Girls Rock Campaign Boston (GRCB) is a volunteer-driven music and mentorship organization that offers year-round programming to girls, women, and youth and adults with marginalized gender identities in the Boston area. I selected Girls Rock Campaign Boston as a subject for a rebranding project because I was a camper with GRCB for the first 4 yrs the camp was offered. I hoped to create a rebranding and identity system that reflects GRCB's creativity, vitality and fun.

Updated Logo

Staying fresh and true to your essence can be a challenge. As Girls Rock Campaign Boston passed its first decade and I had such a close personal connection, I think it would be a great organization to choose for a rebranding. My hope was to create a mark that illustrated the music and individuality that GRCB strived to support. I took influence from the art of origami where you are able to create some make different shapes with a simple piece of paper and combine it with graphical elements that represented pieces of musical instruments.

Graphic System

Supporting graphics, typography, iconography and patterns were created to support the new branding. The acidic pink and green primary colors and primary typography were selected to have a retro 80's feel while the photo treatment display type evoked a grungy riott grrl aesthetic. This was all combined with a minimalist graphic illustrations of silhouetted instruments and lighting bolts to make a flexible modern design system.
